1. Look beyond the best photos on Instagram
Almost every wedding photographer can show you a handful of beautiful images. Instead, ask to see complete wedding galleries.
You want to see how a photographer handles an entire wedding day—not just the couple's portraits. Look for ceremony photographs, family groups, candid moments, reception images, difficult lighting, indoor photographs, and the little moments in between.
A photographer's ability to consistently create beautiful images throughout an entire wedding is much more important than having a few spectacular portfolio photographs.
2. Pay attention to how the photographs feel
Wedding photography in 2026 is increasingly moving toward candid, documentary-style coverage, with couples looking for photographs that feel genuine rather than overly staged.
That doesn't mean you have to choose between candid photography and beautiful portraits.
Look for a Vancouver wedding photographer who can do both—someone who knows when to give you direction for a beautiful portrait and when to step back and let a real moment happen.

3. Make sure you actually like their editing style
