There are few better ways to remember a Vancouver getaway than with photographs of the two of you actually enjoying it.
This newlywed couple was visiting Vancouver for a getaway, and we spent part of their trip exploring Stanley Park together. No wedding timeline, no rushing from one part of the day to the next — just the two of them, a beautiful Vancouver setting, and time to create photographs that felt like them.
For me, that's what a great couple's session is about—not simply standing in a pretty location and smiling at the camera, but creating photographs that show the
connection between two people.
A Newlywed Session in Stanley Park
Stanley Park is one of those Vancouver locations that seems to offer something different around every corner. There are towering trees and winding paths, the seawall and water, glimpses of the mountains and city, and plenty of quieter places where it feels like you've stepped away from Vancouver altogether.
It made the perfect setting for this newlywed session.
We walked, talked, explored, and stopped whenever we found something worth photographing. Some photographs were more intentionally composed, while others happened in between — a laugh, a look, the way they naturally moved toward each other.
Those in-between moments are often the ones I love most.
Because while beautiful scenery can make a photograph interesting, it's the people in it that make you want to keep looking.
Couple’s Photography That Doesn't Feel Overly Posed
Not everyone feels completely comfortable in front of a camera. In fact, most people don't.
You don't need to arrive knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. That's part of my job.
I give enough direction to create intentional, flattering photographs, while leaving plenty of room for you to interact naturally. Rather than repeating the same poses over and over, I look for the small changes in expression, movement and connection that make an image feel personal.
The result is a gallery with variety — some photographs that feel polished and editorial, some that are playful, and plenty that simply feel like the two of you.
That's the balance I look for in my couple's photography: beautiful photographs without losing the people who are actually in them.
Why Stanley Park Is Perfect for a Vancouver Couple’s Session
Vancouver's Stanley Park is an especially versatile location for photography.
A session can begin among the trees and winding forest paths before moving toward the water and the more open scenery around the park. Depending on the time of day, the light can completely change the feeling of the photographs.
It also means we don't have to spend an entire session standing in one picturesque spot.
We can explore.
And I think that's one of the best ways to photograph people.
Instead of treating the location as a backdrop, I want it to become part of the experience.
